Before you begin:

  • If you are using Office 2007, you must first install Collaboration Data Objects (CDO)
  • You must use Windows Fax Services to fax
  • Information on how to use cover sheets is available in the Application Server manual under the “Processing Requests Created by Quick Send” section

Setup Fax Server

This needs to be done on both the machine running Application Server and the machine acting as the fax server.

Windows 2008:

  1. Start -> Administrative Tools -> Server Manager
  2. Add Roles
  3. Check “Fax Server”
  4. Click through the rest of the boxes
  5. Once complete, go to “Devices and Printers” and a Fax icon should now show
  6. Double click and the Windows Fax and Scan window should show with the Inbox and Outbox

Windows 2003 or Windows XP:

  1. Start -> Settings -> Printers and Faxes
  2. Right click and select “Setup Fax” and let that process finish
  3. Right click and select “Install a local fax printer”
  4. You should now have a “Fax” icon in Printers and Faxes.   Double click on this to launch the Fax Configuration Wizard
  5. Click though the Fax Configuration Wizard which should open the Fax Console with the Inbox and Outbox

Test by doing the following:

  1. Open Notepad
  2. Type “This is a test”
  3. Click File -> Print and select the Fax icon
  4. This will launch the Send Fax wizard.  Click through the wizard. 
  5. When you are done, an item should appear in the Outbox of the Fax Console.   This will indicate that fax services are up and running

Setup Microsoft Dynamics SL

  1. In Quick Send Setup:
    • a. Delivery Method = Fax
    • b. Fax Server Name = Any  (either leave as “Any” or enter the machine name where fax services are installed.   Recommended if the Fax Server is on a machine other than the app server)
  2. Vendor, Customer, or Employee Maintenance, Quick Send tab:
    • a. Delivery Method = Fax
    • b. Receiver Fax Number = The 10 digit fax number
    • c. Fax Prefix = enter any additional digits on the fax number here.   For example, if you need to dial “9” to get an outside line, enter 9 here.   If you need to dial 1 before the area code, enter 1 here.  If you need both, enter 91 here.
  3. Start App Server
    • a. When you start app server, you should NOT get the “Fax Services not Available” message otherwise your fax server was not installed properly.
    • b. You also should NOT get the “CDO” error otherwise you will need to install CDO 1.2.1 from Microsoft.com/downloads
